Sun shines on the Mayor’s Garden Party
Guests at the Mayor’s Garden Party enjoyed drinks and snacks in the summer sun as they enjoyed the company of other local residents, councillors and local leaders. As well as being a great social occasion, the event was to raise funds for the Mayor’s nominated charities for this year which are Swings and Smiles, Bridge for Young People, and Home-Start West Berkshire.
Thatcham Town Council’s Mayor, Cllr Petra Pemberton said: “This is my first fundraising event, in our Jubilee Sensory Garden, it’s such a beautiful location for everybody to come together, to connect and raise awareness and funds for my three wonderful charities.”
The Jubilee Sensory Garden, a community garden located in front of the Council Offices on Brownsfield Road is a tranquil space open to everyone, with an emphasis on sustainability and organic gardening practices. The garden features seasonal herbs and vegetables that visitors can enjoy, and is due to be updated this summer with new planters and benches.
Cllr Pemberton added: “I want to say thank you to each one of you for coming today. I’m grateful for your support and it’s so lovely to see so many familiar faces, a lot of who I’ve met, whilst I’ve been out and about in the community attending events. I’m reminded that with every conversation, every handshake, every smile, and every act of kindness, this helps to makes our town a nicer place to live.”
