Funding campaign begins to expand Shaw-cum-Donnington Village Hall

Trustees of a village hall are campaigning for public support to build an extension as they no longer have capacity for the amount of events held there.

A table-top sale of Christmas themed items will be held at Shaw-cum-Donnington Village Hall on Sunday, November 30, from 10am until noon, to start raising funds to extend the existing building.

The hall has obtained planning approval to build a new extension for a second smaller hall, a community room and improved toilets and kitchen.

The committee are still waiting for a budget via architects and builders but as soon as a price is set they will be creating an application on The Good Exchange.

It comes after the need for the space has grown exponentially recently due to the housing development at Donnington Heights.

As a result of the newly-built 401 homes on the estate, the parish is growing rapidly and the hall is having to turn away bookings, since they do not have the capacity to run them.

Currently the hall use is also taken up by the local primary as it has little facilities on site.

Shaw-cum-Donnington Primary School on Love Lane has no catering facilities or central hall for activities or assemblies, and has to pay to hire the hall for daily school lunches and several times a week for afternoon activities.

The school has recently taken a further blow after housebuilder David Wilson Homes applied to have the condition that it build a school taken out of the planning permission.

The cohort cannot move to a more suitable site until the developers build a new school to the east of the current school on Bastion Street.
