Dementia Action Week

Thatcham Town Council is proud to be supporting Dementia Action Week by taking part in the Paint the Town Blue campaign, with a colourful display of crocheted forget-me-nots installed across Thatcham Broadway.
The forget-me-not is a well-recognised symbol of dementia awareness and remembrance, representing understanding, compassion and support for people living with dementia and their families.
By filling the Broadway with blue forget-me-nots, Thatcham Town Council aims to raise awareness and show that Thatcham is a dementia friendly community.
Dementia Action Week is an important opportunity to highlight the challenges faced by those affected by dementia, while also encouraging people to learn more, act and help reduce stigma. Small actions, such as raising awareness and showing visible support, can make a meaningful difference to individuals and families living with dementia every day.
Members of the community are encouraged to show their support by wearing a forget-me-not during Dementia Action Week. Wearing the symbol is a simple but powerful way to stand in solidarity with people living with dementia and to help spread awareness throughout the town.
As part of the week’s activities, Thatcham Town Council will be hosting a Dementia Action Week Garden Party on Thursday 21 May at the Thatcham Town Council offices, in the jubilee garden. The event will provide a welcoming and relaxed environment where residents can access information, support, and advice, as well as meet local organisations who work with, and support people affected by dementia.
The Garden Party is open to all and reflects the Council’s ongoing commitment to supporting residents, carers and families impacted by dementia, while promoting inclusion and understanding across the community.
For more information about Dementia Action Week activities in Thatcham, residents are encouraged to visit their website and social media channels.
