Thousands gathered for Thatcham Town Council’s Annual Family Fun Day

Thousands gathered for Thatcham Town Council’s Annual Family Fun Day at Henwick Worthy Sports Ground on Sunday, 29th June.

Despite the warm weather, the event drew huge crowds who came to enjoy a jam-packed day of entertainment and activities for all ages. Children had a blast with inflatables, a fun run, climbing wall, and zorbing, while families took in the classic car show, fun fair, Punch and Judy performances, creative workshops, sports challenges, and circus skills.

A highlight of this year’s event was the brand-new Acoustic Stage, curated by local artist Sion Whiley. Situated next to the food court, the stage provided a relaxed atmosphere where visitors could enjoy live music and an open mic hour—both of which were a hit with the crowd.

The Main Stage hosted an impressive lineup of local talent. Audiences were entertained with magic by Fred in the Shed, lively line dancing lessons from Blazin’ Soles, and performances from Whitelands Performance Choir, Thatcham Musical Theatre, KATS and Fire Dancers. The day ended on a high note with crowd-pleasing rock covers from local band Roadhouse.

Meanwhile, the Dance Zone, curated by the talented Sonia Brown and hosted by Kennet Radio, brought together local dance schools for a dynamic showcase of styles and talent, proving once again to be a standout feature of the day.

The Newbury Pride in Thatcham Parade, brought colour, rhythm, and joy to the event. Led by the high-energy Beatroots Bateria samba band, accompanied by dazzling stilt walkers and the enchanting Bubble Fairy, the parade added a burst of celebration and inclusivity.

With a record number of free and low-cost attractions, live performances, hands-on crafts, and family-friendly fun, Thatcham Family Fun Day continues to be one of the best-value days out in Berkshire. Thatcham Town Council is proud to deliver this much-loved event.

“It was an honour to be part of such a joyful and inclusive Thatcham Family Fun Day said Mayor Councillor Petra Pemberton. “Some of my personal highlights included the Car Show, the Pride parade dance workshops and the parade itself, and I so enjoyed the wonderful performances by our local choirs and the KATS excerpts from their upcoming show. It truly showcased the heart and diversity of our community.”

Thatcham Town Council’s next free family event is KidsFest on Thursday, 28th August, from 10 am to 3 pm on Thatcham Broadway, High Street, Library and Turnfields recreation ground.
