Step into Storybook Magic at Thatcham’s St George’s Day Market

Thatcham Town Council is celebrating St George’s Day with a themed market on Friday 24 April, bringing a morning of fun for the little ones, English produce, crafts, and magical entertainment to Thatcham Broadway from 8am to 2pm.

Visitors can enjoy a mix of their favourite regular stalls and special St George’s Day treats, including:

  • Fresh produce: fruit and vegetables, local honey, doughnuts, pet treats, and meat.
  • Artisan crafts: resin goods, sun catchers, and necklaces.
  • Delicious food: slow-roasted British pork with sage and onion stuffing and apple sauce, BBQ pork with coleslaw, loaded fries topped with pork, bacon rolls, plus hot and cold drinks.
  • International treats: olives, baklava, nuts, and Turkish delight – a nod to St George himself, who was born in what is now Turkey but became England’s patron saint!
  • Health & community activities: free spinal and posture checks, and promotion of the Berks, Bucks and Oxon Wildlife Trust, offering advice on wildlife gardening, volunteering, membership, and the Children’s Wildlife Watch Club.

Venture into the Broadway from 9.30am for family friendly appearances from our very own Green Knight and dragon, and with crafts happening alongside the market it’s the perfect chance for local families to step into a little bit of storybook magic in the heart of Thatcham. Magical appearances are scheduled at 9.30am, 10.45am, and 12pm.

Mayor of Thatcham Councillor Petra Pemberton commented:

“We’re excited to bring the community together to celebrate English produce, local craft, and family fun. Our St George’s Day Market is the great way to enjoy the town centre and even sample a little international flair in honour of St George’s own roots!”
